Apple Fritters Recipe
As I was peeling my Granny Smith apples to make these, I told my son Sam how I enjoyed watching my Great Granddaddy Joe peel apples when I was a little girl. He and my Great Grandmother would have just picked the apples he was about to peel. With his pocket knife in hand, he’d begin to peel. He’d always ask if we thought he could peel the apple in one long ring. It was always a treat to watch him in anticipation, knowing he’d never missed this trick in all the other times we’d watched him. The perfect, bouncy ring of apple peeling always seemed magical to my young eyes. As I finished telling Sam my story, I passed him the nearly complete ring I’d peeled from our Granny Smith apples. I laughed and told him, “I should have watched Granddaddy Joe one more time to make sure I could do it every time, shouldn’t I?”
