How to Make Cranachan
Step #3: Next, toast the remaining ¼ cup of oats until they are slightly browned, and set aside. These ingredients are layered or mixed together to create a dessert that balances the richness of the cream and the sweetness of the honey with the tartness of the raspberries and the earthy, nutty flavor of the oats. The addition of whisky adds a unique Scottish twist, giving it a slightly spicy and warm flavor profile. Cranachan is especially popular during celebrations like Burns Night. If you prefer a different flavor profile or can’t find Dalwhinnie 15 Year, consider other light Scotch Whiskies like Glenkinchie 12 Year or Auchentoshan 12 Year. These whiskies are known for their smoother, more delicate flavours. You can also check out this list of light whiskeys to use. Step #8: Time to assemble the Cranachan. To start, fill the bottom of your glass with a layer of raspberries to coat the bottom. Next, add the whipped topping and sprinkle a generous amount of the toasted oats. Repeat these steps and top the glass with fresh raspberries. With the whiskey added, and considering its lower freezing temperature, I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
